Friends of the Children New York

Established in 2001, Friends of the Children of New York is a unique early intervention program dedicated to helping New York City's most at risk children become productive, contributing members of their community. They accomplish this by employing full-time mentors, called "Friends", to work one-on-one with these children, beginning in kindergarten or first-grade and maintaining that relationship through high school graduation.

The Friends of the Children of New York serves seventy (70) children in twenty-two (22) public schools in New York. These children face the following challenges:

• 100% qualify for free or reduced lunch prices
• 80% come from single parent homes
• 55% are the children of single parent homes
• 45% have a known parent who is or has been in prison
• 33% had no parent employed in the past year
• 27.5% live in foster care with no parent
• 25% have been exposed to substance abuse in the home
• 18% have been physically abused

Olivia's Organics proudly sponsors general support for the educational  and recreational activities that the Friends undertake with their children. In 2006, Olivia's Organics provided the aptitude testing for a gifted young girl named Olivia as well as donating $5,000 which will be held in a reserve for her future educational expenses.
